On the feast of St. Jude, October 28, 1961, Monsignor Francis E. Moylan blessed the land and broke ground on the new St. Jude campus. The school was the first building to be constructed and it would also serve as our temporary church. On Sunday, May 6, 1962 the first Mass was celebrated on our property in the new St. Jude School building.
St. Jude School officially opened on September 4, 1962 with the kindergarten and first through fourth grades staffed with five lay teachers and Fr. Stapleton serving as school principal. In the fall of 1963, the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart staffed the school. With their arrival, all eight grades were staffed and we had the first class of 18 graduates from St. Jude School the following Spring.
