“Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit…in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of the Christian life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1309)

Confirmation Formation and Reception of Sacrament*
The Archdiocese of Atlanta has adopted a change to the age for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation, moving it from 10th grade (15-16 yrs old) to 6th grade (11-12 yrs old). This lowering of age will occur over the next several years.
As the age is lowered, parent participation will accompany the candidate preparation, thereby fostering the family as the domestic church. We also look forward to our youth receiving the full benefits of the Holy Spirit, and our parish community will support their ongoing faith journey through our youth ministry programs: Edge (middle school) and Life Teen (high school).
| School Year | One-Year Confirmation Formation | Confirmation Mass |
| 2026-27 | 8th an 9th Grades | Late Summer 2027 |
| 2027-28 | 7th and 8th Grades | Late Summer 2028 |
| 2028-29 | 6th and 7th Grades | Late Spring 2029 |
| 2029-30 | 6th Grade | Late Spring 2030 |
Candidates for Confirmation need two years of religious catechetical preparation immediately before the year of Confirmation formation per the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
At Saint Jude the Apostle, a candidate may participate in the Confirmation Formation program if one of the following/or a combination of offerings is completed:
- Two years of participation in the Edge middle school program (offered to 6th, 7th, and 8th grades) or Parish School of Religion’s “Faith & Life Family Catechesis Program”.
- Two years of enrollment at a Catholic school, archdiocesan, private, or homeschool hybrid.
- Homeschool curriculum approved by Saint Jude the Apostle’s Director of Religious Education.
If you have any questions about your child’s eligibility to participate in Confirmation Formation, please contact our Director of Religious Education, Roberta Meadows, 770-394-3896, ext. XXX.
A candidate’s family must be registered as parishioners at Saint Jude the Apostle. We will consider candidates from other parishes if our program numbers allow it, and the family can provide a letter of permission from the pastor of their parish at the time of registration.
All candidates and at least one parent must attend our Confirmation Information Meeting on Sunday, August 30th, from 3:00-4:45 pm in the Ministry Hall.
You cannot register for Confirmation if you do not attend the meeting. Alternate meeting options via Teams and/or in-person will be available after the August 30th meeting. Registration for Confirmation will close on Friday, September 18, 2026.
